It has been a little while since we have been in Woodstock, but the estate of Keniston and Carol Merrill was too stylish and tasteful to pass up.
Ken and Carol were married in 1959. For the next 23 they lived in NY and Ridgefield, Ct. before moving to Randolph, Vt. in 1982 when Ken accepted the position of President and CEO of National Life Insurance in Montpelier. After retiring in 1997, he stayed busy on a number of local non-profit boards including Central Vt. Hospital, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital (now Dartmouth-Hitchcock), Vt. Law School, New England Culinary Institute, and others. His parents worked for the New Haven railroad and instilled in Ken a lifelong passion for locomotives. He particularly enjoyed watching the seasons change in Vermont. In 2013 they gave up the farmhouse in Randolph and moved to a spacious condominium in Woodstock.
Carol grew up in North Haven, Ct. and attended Mt. Holyoke College. She graduated in 1959 and married Ken, the love of her life, two weeks later. On his death in 2015, the had been happily married for over 56 years. She loved animals, and at one point her pets included two dogs, five cats, two rabbits, a horse, seven ducks, and 3 goats. She was an avid gardener and very social person collecting wonderful friends wherever she went. In addition, she was a Vt. Statehouse tour guide for many years, organized blood drives for the Red Cross, and frequently volunteered at the local Episcopal church. She passed in December with her family at her side after a brief hospitalization.
Carol and Ken had exceptional taste. This is evident in their furnishings which include traditional Americana, family items, porcelain, rugs, and fine fashion by Hermes, LV, Tiffany, and others. Plan on a fun and diverse day.
Directions: From Rte. 4 turn onto Blake Hill Rd. Extension. At the top of the hill take the first left to the furthest complex. Please note, while the units are large, this is still a condominium complex. We have secured permission to park in established areas providing we are respectful and do not block garages. There will be no early numbers.
